Day 3:
Ag students began their last day touring Bayer, exploring plant science and the research projects in progress. Our plant science tours continued with Covercress, learning about the research with a possible winter crop to plant in between growing traditional row crops. A panel of biotechnology experts spoke with students during our lunch. The final tour of our journey was the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, a nonprofit research facility for various crops and plants.
A huge thank you to MOBIO for sponsoring their very first student tour. This provided students an amazing opportunity to discover the up and coming technology and practices in the agriculture industry and the ability to network with others.

Day 2:
Ag students had the opportunity to tour the state capitol Tuesday morning, and visit with the Missouri Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn. We then toured the Center of Soy Innovation in Jeff City, followed by their farm tour in Columbia, learning about soybeans, soy products, and the research occurring. St. Louis was our final destination where students were able to experience MOBIO’s virtual reality programs.

These five students set out early Monday morning for 3 days worth of ag tours across the state of Missouri, sponsored by MOBIO, to learn more about the industry and the new innovative happenings in agriculture.
Day 1:
We started in St. Joseph touring Boehringer Ingelheim learning about the production process of human and animal health products. Missouri State Senator Rusty Black then met us for lunch in Chillicothe. A short tour of the home of sliced bread museum followed. Transova was our next stop, where we learned about animal genetics, embryo transplants, and IVF in livestock. We ended our evening in Jefferson City with a night tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary.

HS Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Willis, participated in an intensive Holocaust education program, called KC to DC, sponsored by the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education (MCHE). The highlight of KC to DC was a trip to tour the
exhibitions at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
The goals of the KC to DC program are to increase educators’ historical knowledge, instructional skills, and connections to MCHE’s team and resources. As Mrs. Willis returns to King City High School this year, she will be better able to implement effective and meaningful Holocaust lessons for her students.
“I’ve used USHMM resources in my classroom before, but seeing the museum and memorial in person was very impactful. Hearing Mr. Devinki’s family testimony and building relationships with other educators from Missouri and Kansas made this experience invaluable.”
KC to DC is funded through the generous support of Sam Devinki, whose parents were Holocaust survivors Fred and Maria Devinki. The program will offered again in 2027.
Visit the MCHE website at www.mchekc.org for more information about professional development for educators, programs for students, and programs for the community.
