"The future of the world is in my classroom today."--Ivan Welton Fitzwater

I was born and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri.  After graduating from Benton High School in St. Joseph, Missouri I began my journey to become a teacher.  In the fall of 1987, I started working on my B.S. in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and received the degree in 1991.  I began my teaching career in St. Joseph, Missouri as a special education teacher.  After working 4 years, I decided to continue my education at Northwest Missouri State University, and decided that moving closer to Maryville would be a benefit to me.

I then become a 2nd grade teacher at West Nodaway R-I School District in Burlington Junction, Missouri.  While at West Nodaway for the next 7 years I taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.  I finished my M.S. in Learning Disabilities from NWMSU in the summer of 1997.  I took a year off from teaching so that I could be a STARR (Select Teacher As a Regional Resource) teacher for the Northwest area.  During that year, I was given the opportunity to meet with teachers and present workshops on various topics.

My next opportunity came when I was given the chance to be the elementary special education teacher for the King City R-I School District.  In addition, while at King City, I have taught first and third grades.  I have had numerous experiences in a variety of setting, but I truly believe that I LOVE teaching the primary grades in a rural school.  I am married and have two step children.  We live east of Maryville, Missouri near Mozingo.  In my free time I love to spend time with family and shop at Hobby Lobby.
